Orange City Council is committed to facilitating business and industry development opportunities. Located just 3.5 hours west of Sydney and 3 hours north west of Canberra in Central Ranges NSW, the City is well positioned for business and tourist activities. The 2001 ABS census data indicated that the population in Orange has grown at a rate of 6.3% since the last census to 37,021. The data shows continuing growth in Orange, which is defying the trend shown by around three quarters of other NSW inland local government areas.

Business owners are attracted to the region for its beauty and quality of lifestyle on offer, where city living convenience combines with the freedom of country lifestyle.

The industry base is significant and diverse, ranging from apples through to whitegoods manufacturing, viticulture, mining, agricultural support and research facilities.

Land, whether it is for residential, commercial or industrial purposes, is always obtainable at prices that compare favourably to the metropolitan areas and other large regional centres.

The recent development of a Regional Business Prospectus with neighbouring councils, Cabonne and Blayney, typifies the professional approach to providing well presented local data to commercial interests wishing to locate in the region.

In a recent survey of community businesses, over 80% of those aged 46-55 years indicated that the Orange economy was strong. Two thirds of those surveyed held the opinion that Orange City Council encouraged business development.

Educational facilities exist at all tiers providing a lifetime of learning for all members of the family.
